DESCRIPTION:Abstract\n\nWith the UK and most of the world locked down arou
nd March 2020\, suddenly video conferencing was used by a much wider audie
nce and seems here to stay. From Handforth Parish Council to a lawyer sayi
ng\, “I’m not a cat\,” the world has since learned to embrace this t
echnology at a before unprecedented scale. \n\n\nWe will look at the techn
ology changes – networks\, processing power\, and software – over the
last 15 years that made this possible\, starting when the industry was lar
gely confined to expensive meeting room solutions to today\, where video i
s near-ubiquitous. And conclude with a look to the future: what can these
past experiences tell us about what might come next? \n\n\nSpeaker\n\nDr S
am Jansen\, CTO at Avos Ltd \n\nSam first moved to the UK when interning f
or Intel Research\, who used to have an office in the William Gates buildi
ng. Since later moving on from networking research to industry\, Sam has o
ver a decade of experience in video and business collaboration solutions:
implementing video codecs\, embedded video devices\, and cross-platform so
ftware in this area. Since May 2022\, he has been heading up technology at
the new Cambridge start-up\, Avos. \n\nPlease sign-up at the following li
