DESCRIPTION:"Mitochondrial machineries for import and assembly of proteins
 "\n\n\nMitochondria fulfil central functions in bioenergetics\, cellular m
 etabolism and\nsignalling. The lecture will address how mitochondria impor
 t about 1\,000 different\nproteins from the cytosol via specific membrane-
 bound preprotein translocases\, how\nthe proteins are sorted to their corr
 ect intramitochondrial location\, and how protein\ntransport is connected 
 to the characteristic membrane architecture of mitochondria.\nProtein tran
 slocases do not function as independent units\, but are integrated into a\
 nnetwork of machineries that function in bioenergetics\, metabolism\, memb
 rane\nmorphology and formation of organelle contact sites\, indicating a h
