DESCRIPTION:We have recently generated a new mouse line which allows us to
record calcium activity in microglial cells in slices and in vivo. We hav
e used this mouse line to test whether neuronal activity elicits calcium s
ignals in microglial cells. We found that Schaffer collateral activation i
n the hippocampus elicits calcium signals in microglia which are mediated
by astrocyte activity. In the second part I will focus on the interaction
of microglial cells/ brain macrophages with glioma cells. We found that th
ese cells acquire a very specific phenotype and there are several mechanis
ms by which they promote glioma progression.\n
