DESCRIPTION:An exotic n-sphere is a smooth manifold which is homeomorphic 
 but not diffeomorphic to S^n. \nIn this talk I will explain the first cons
 truction of such Manifolds due to Milnor in 1956. To do so\, I will introd
 uce the notion of cobordism and Pontryagin classes\, and state some import
 ant results in topology such as the Hirzebruch signature theorem. \nFinall
 y\, if time permits I will say what is known about exotic spheres in other
  dimensions. \n
