DESCRIPTION:Massive forest mortality events of many tree species in the la
st two decades prompt concerns that drought\, insects\, and wildfire may d
evastate forests in the coming decades. We study how drought and climate c
hange affect forest ecosystems\, including tree physiology\, species inter
actions\, carbon cycling\, and biosphere-atmosphere feedbacks. This resear
ch spans a broad array of spatial scales from xylem cells to ecosystems an
d seeks to gain a better mechanistic understanding of how climate change w
ill affect forests around the world. This talk will explore our recent wor
k aiming to leverage multiple approaches and techniques to quantify the cl
imate risks that forests face and bring this scientific understanding into
  efforts around ‘nature-based climate solutions’.
