DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday 9th June\, the Department of Materials Science and 
 Metallurgy will host the Armourers & Brasiers' Cambridge Forum.\n\nThe For
 um is based in the Babbage Lecture Theatre and starts with registration at
  1.30 pm.\n\nThe highlight of the day will be the 11th Kelly Lecture\, by 
 Professor CNR Rao FRS of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientif
 ic Research\, Bangalore. Professor Rao will speak on "Doing Nanoscience Re
 search in Emerging India". \n\nThe five talks before the Kelly Lecture are
  on a wide variety of materials. Professor Clare Grey (based at the State 
 University of New York at Stonybrook\, and about to move to Cambridge) wil
 l talk on lithium battery technology\, Professor Steve Rannard (University
  of Liverpool) will tell us about nanoparticle processing\, and Professor 
 Chris Grovenor (Head of the Department of Materials at Oxford) will speak 
 on state-of-the-art structural characterization\, with a particular emphas
 is on materials of interest for nuclear power generation. In the second se
 ssion of talks\, Dr Tridibesh Mukherjee (Director\, Tata Group) will give 
 us his views on the nature of invention and innovation in manufacturing in
 dustry\, and Professor David MacKay (Cavendish Laboratory\, Cambridge) wil
 l provide an overview of sustainable energy options.\n\nThe Forum will als
 o see the award of the second annual Materials Science Venture Prize from 
 the Armourers and Brasiers' Company.\n\nAttendance at the Forum is free of
  charge\, but it will be very helpful if you register in advance -- we can
  then arrange for you to have a badge\, and it helps us in judging the cat
