DESCRIPTION:Bio: Dr. Shiladitya Sengupta is an associate professor of medi
 cine at Harvard Medical School and leads the center for engineered therape
 utics at the Mass General-Brigham Hospital. His laboratory use tools from 
 nanotechnology and bioengineering to explore biological phenomenon at uniq
 ue scales and to design new therapeutics. For example\, he developed the f
 irst layer-by-layer nanoparticle that allows targeting different component
 s of a tumor on a temporal scale (Nature). Recently\, his lab discovered a
  new mechanism of tumor immune evasion\, where the cancer cells harvest im
 mune cell mitochondria through nanoscale tentacles (Nature Nanotechnology)
 .  He holds over 50 pending/granted patents\, and many of his inventions/r
 esearch have led to start-ups\, which have raised over $300M in R&D fundin
 g. Over 100 students and postdoctoral fellows have trained in his laborato
 ry\, have won multiple best paper awards and fellowships\, and have gone o
 n to successful careers in academia and in the biotech industry. He has re
 ceived the TR35 Top 35 Global Innovators award from MIT Technology Review 
 magazine\, the Era of Hope scholar award\, and the Scholar and Innovator a
 ward (with Erkki Ruoslahti and Roger Tsien) from US Department of Defense\
 , etc. He completed his undergraduate education at the All India Institute
  of Medical Sciences\, New Delhi\, his PhD in Pharmacology as a Nehru and 
 Chevening scholar from Trinity College\, Cambridge University\, and his fe
 llowship in biological engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technolog
 y\, before joining Harvard as faculty.
