DESCRIPTION:Molecules are present in most astrophysical environments withi
n galaxies and\, beside having a key role in the formation and shaping of
such galaxies\, they are also powerful tracers of their physical character
istics and energetics. I will use examples from different regions of space
\, from interstellar and star forming gas in the Milky Way\, to extragalac
tic star forming regions and active galactic nuclei\, to demonstrate how i
mportant molecules are for our understanding of star and galaxy formation.
In an era where data science has become such an integral part of astronom
y\, I will also show how statistical and AI techniques are now being routi
nely used to interpret and analyse astrochemical data.
LOCATION:Hoyle Lecture Theatre + ONLINE - Details will be sent by email
