DESCRIPTION:A series of major research programmes in Education  over the p
 ast decade have set themselves the task of 'building research capacity'.  
 However\, this has been understood in different ways and as a result diffe
 rent kinds of activities\, training and online support have been provided 
 for early career researchers and those engaged in supporting them.  In thi
 s seminar\, Patrick Carmichael\, who has worked with on a number of these 
 initiatives\, describes some of the challenges faced and the opportunities
  provided by new web-based tools for the development of sustainable resear
 ch communities.
