DESCRIPTION:The increasing level of experimental control over atomic and\n
\noptical systems gained in recent years has paved the way\n\nfor the expl
oration of new physical regimes in quantum optics\n\nand atomic physics. S
ome of these regimes are characterised\n\nby the appearance of quantum man
 y-body phenomena\, originally\n\nencountered only in condensed-matter phys
ics\, and the possibility\n\nof experimentally accessing them in a more co
ntrolled manner.\n\nIn this talk I will try to give an overview over recen
t theoretical\n\nstudies concerning the use of cavity quantum electrodynam
ics to\n\ncreate quantum many-body systems.\n\nBased on recent experimenta
l progress in the fabrication\n\nof arrays of interacting micro-cavities a
nd on their coupling\n\nto atomic-like structures\, several proposals for
 the realisation of\n\nparadigmatic many-body models\, such as the Bose-Hub
bard\n\nand anisotropic Heisenberg models have been developed.\n\nSuch arr
ays of coupled cavities offer interesting properties as\n\nsimulators of q
uantum many-body physics\, including the full\n\naddressability of individ
ual sites and the accessibility of\n\ninhomogeneous models.\n\n\n\n
