DESCRIPTION:The geometric properties of charged\, asymptotically AdS black
holes make it possible for charged scalar fields to condense if the tempe
rature of the black hole is sufficiently low. A non-zero expectation value
of such a field spontaneously breaks the gauge symmetry. This gravitation
al version of the abelian Higgs effect has recently been interpreted as be
ing dual to a boundary superconductor transition. In this talk I want to d
escribe certain aspects of the phenomenology of these 'holographic superco
nductors'\, focusing in particular on effects related to rotation. In such
cases the emergence\nof a magnetic field is expected in the superconduct
ing state\, and indeed I will show how this so-called London field is desc
 ribed in the gravitational setting.\n
