DESCRIPTION:Many interesting phenomena occur in atomic structures that are
poised in a region between rigid and flexible. In this talk\, we describe
the modern theory of rigidity and show how it can be used to analyze netw
orks of constraints. These results can be used as input to geometrical sim
ulation\, where the various rigid parts of a system are moved\, while main
taining all the constraints\; both equalities and inequalities. \nExamples
of this approach are given from zeolites\, manganites and proteins (inclu
 ding folding an ancient protein).
