DESCRIPTION:This talk will provide an overview of Ethernet evolution from 
 the "big yellow Ethernet" of the late 1980s to today.  The talk is in 3 se
 ctions.  The first section provides a chronological outline of Ethernet te
 chnology evolution.  The second section discusses how and why modern Carri
 er Ethernet is used in Metropolitan Area Networks. The last section provid
 es diagrams of typical Carrier Ethernet MAN designs\, so that one can see 
 how the various pieces fit together in a typical deployment today.  Presen
 tation does not assume the audience is deeply familiar Ethernet.  Please n
 ote well that this will be a technology/standards talk\, not a sales/marke
