DESCRIPTION:The thermodynamics and equilibration of nonlinear chains have 
 been a fundamental question to understand the foundations of statistical m
 echanics since the seminal work of Fermi-Past-Ulam-Tsingou. We have propos
 ed a new model for a family of nonlinear lattices which includes billiard 
 dynamics. I will describe the main ergodic and thermodynamic properties fo
 r the one-dimensional case\, a chain\, in the large size limit. I will dis
 cuss the connection for a smoothed version of the model in the continuum l
 imit and why the hard wall limit is singular.
