DESCRIPTION:Some of the most interesting phenomena in fluid dynamics\, bot
 h from a mathematical and a physical perspective\, stem from the interplay
  between a fluid and its boundaries. This talk will review some examples o
 f how boundary effects can&nbsp\;often&nbsp\;lead to non-intuitive outcome
 s\, and how mathematical modeling can account for them with quantitative p
 redictions derived\, sometimes\, from &ldquo\;unreasonably&rdquo\; simple 
 models. &nbsp\;
