DESCRIPTION:Professor Higson joined the Department of Chemical Engineering
  and Biotechnology in 2020 bringing to his new role more than 20 years’ 
 experience of bringing fundamental research through to practical implement
 ation and full commercialisation – based on technologies ranging from el
 ectrochemical fuel cells and electrolysers as enablers for the hydrogen ec
 onomy – through to biomedical biosensors and sensors for use within the 
 water industry and environmental monitoring.\n\nProfessor Higson’s caree
 r to date has spanned academic departments of Chemistry\, Medicine\, Biote
 chnology\, Materials Science and Engineering - with this being reflected i
 n his publications and ongoing research interests.\n\nProfessor Higson ser
 ves in an advisory and/or consultative capacity for a number of public and
  professional bodies\, has acted as an expert witness for a number of high
  profile intellectual property and patent legal cases in the US and Europe
  as well as being the founding Director for Microarray Ltd - a company for
 med in 1999 upon science and patents originating from his group.\n\nA char
 tered Scientist and Engineer\, Professor Higson is a Fellow of the Institu
 te of Materials\, Minerals and Mining and serves on the accreditation boar
 d for the Engineering Council.\n\nProfessor Higson is author of in excess 
 of 130 research papers along with a number of textbooks including the flag
 ship Oxford text\, 'Analytical Chemistry': (ISBN: 0 19-8502893).\n\nIn Jul
 y 2018\, Professor Higson was awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) from Cranf
 ield University in recognition to his research over two decades and the im
 pact this has had to a number of fields.\n\nProfessor Higson serves as the
  departmental programme manager for the M.Phil. in Bioscience Enterprise (
 MBE).
