DESCRIPTION:-----------------------------------------------\n\n*Speaker*:
Bianca Schor\n\n*Title*: Leveraging Machine Learning for women's health: t
owards better endometriosis diagnosing tools\n\n*Abstract*: Endometriosis
is a life-long condition that affects about 10% of the world population as
signed female at birth. In the UK\, the average time to be diagnosed from
the onset of symptoms is currently 8 years. To reduce this delay\, a numbe
r of research projects leveraging machine learning models are being develo
ped based on different types of health data. Although those models yield p
romising accuracy\, because of the lack of interpretation\, the limitation
s of the datasets used\, and the complexity of diagnosing endometriosis\,
it is non-trivial to gain people’s trust for their real deployment in he
althcare systems. In this talk\, I will review the key challenges and bene
fits of some of the leading research projects in the field and outline fur
ther opportunities to improve endometriosis diagnosing with ML models.\n\n
 -----------------------------------------------\n\n*Speaker*: Minja Axelss
on (pronounced "Minya")\n \n*Title*: Robotic Coaches for Mental Well-being
\n \n*Abstract*: Robotic coaches for mental well-being could help people m
aintain their well-being through exercises such as mindfulness or positive
psychology. But how should such robots be designed and implemented? And h
ow do users perceive such robots in the short and long term? In this talk\
, I will present robotic mental well-being coaches from design to real-wor
 ld deployment. \n\n-----------------------------------------------\n\n*Spe
aker*: Anna Hudig\n\n*Title*: Surfacing the hidden risks of consumer Inter
net of Things: a technical and legal perspective on consumer IoT data tran
smission\n \n*Abstract*: Do you know what happens with the data gathered b
y our home security cameras\, fitness trackers and other smart devices? Th
e rapid growth of consumer Internet of Things (IoT) gives rise to an incre
asing capacity for data collection in and around consumer homes. This dyna
mic\, interconnected and opaque physical infrastructure may amplify existi
ng privacy and data protection concerns related to digital data.\n\nThis i
nterdisciplinary study deploys technical and legal tools to highlight conc
erns around consumer rights and data flows in IoT. By monitoring data tran
smission\, analysing legal documents and executing our data rights\, I exp
lore the extent to which the behaviour of consumer IoT devices is currentl
y aligned with data protection law.\n \nYou may leave this talk with a dif
ferent view on your smart home devices.
