DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to our first Black in Geography
student-led seminar for this academic year on Friday 18 November at 4 pm
GMT on Zoom.\n\nIn this seminar\, we are honoured to have Professor Thembe
la Kepe sharing his thoughts on Geographers as insurgent scholars in conve
rsation with MPhil student Nonhlanhla Mathibela.\n\nIn this talk\, Profess
or Thembela Kepe makes a case for insurgent scholarship\, particularly in
knowledge production and dissemination. He draws from a range of literatur
e (e.g. on insurgent citizenship)\, as well as his own work on land rights
and anti-racism\, to argue that insurgent scholars should constantly conf
ront and challenge existing orders and power relations\, even as they are
aware of the risks involved. While acknowledging that insurgent scholarshi
p can take many forms and that journeys on it are not linear\, he shares s
ome ideas that can help disrupt our comforts as scholars. \nHis talk will
be followed by insights from MPhil student Nonhlanhla Mathibela.\n\nRSVP t
o our event and register your interest: tinyurl.com/BlackInGeo to receive
the Zoom link.\nAny questions? Please feel free to get in touch: Matipa: m
 tm62@cam.ac.uk\; Frédérique: flf25@cam.ac.uk\; and Ed: emk31@cam.ac.uk\n
\nWe look forward to seeing many of you there.
