DESCRIPTION:Self- and proxy-report questionnaire data serve as the foundat
ion of much basic and clinical research on autism and related neurodevelop
mental conditions. Although methodologically rigorous measure development\
, evaluation\, and adaptation initiatives are essential for high-quality s
cience\, very few patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have been deve
loped or thoroughly validated for use with autistic individuals. This talk
provides an overview of the “state of the field” of PROM use in autis
m research\, highlighting both current issues in the field and examples of
positive developments\, as well as future directions for to improve the q
uality of work in this area. In addition\, the speaker’s newly-establish
ed Autism PROMnet group will be introduced\, along with a brief overview o
f the group’s initiatives to promote valid and meaningful outcome measur
ement throughout the field of autism research.
