DESCRIPTION:The discussion will focus on a class of coupled systems of KdV
 /BBM type. &nbsp\;&nbsp\;First examined are the question of solitary-wave 
 solutions.&nbsp\; Derived are &nbsp\;descriptions of such waves as well as
  criteria for their stability.&nbsp\; Numerical&nbsp\;simulations help fil
 l in the overall picture\, which can be quite different from&nbsp\;single 
 equations of KdV/BBM type.&nbsp\; The lecture will conclude with a &nbsp\;
 particular system that has some interesting mathematical implications for 
 the KdV equation itself.&nbsp\; &nbsp\;\nThis is joint work with H. Chen\,
  O. Karakashian and F. Weissler
