DESCRIPTION:This seminar raises the issue of reliability and considers it 
 in the light of present attitudes in society. Materials from the first Cam
 bridge Assessment Conference will be shown and discussed. We will also ref
 er to studies of examiners' marking\, and ask if and how it would be possi
 ble to be more frank about the inevitable error in all measurements\, part
 icularly in those as complex as general educational assessments. How could
  we 'educate the public' more\, so that they have a better understanding o
 f key issues in assessment?
