DESCRIPTION:A multiscale materials modelling framework for selective laser
melting (SLM) of precipitate strengthened nickel-based superalloys is pre
sented. The approach accounts for physical phenomena over a number of leng
th and temporal scales associated with solid-liquid-vapour transitions\, s
olidification microstructures (grains and precipitation of ) and def
ects\, as well as the development of residual stress states. Numerical sim
ulations of the emerging microstructure and properties as a function of pr
ocess parameters are presented for a low and high  volume fraction s
uperalloys. The mechanical driving forces acting on grain boundaries actin
g along grain boundaries are calculated using crystal plasticity.
