 ampaign=social\n\nABSTRACT: CGHR runs a Practitioner Series each year in L
 ent term\, Jan to March\, which often features rights activists\, aid prac
 titioners and journalists etc. \n\nOur speakers relate stories about their
  own experience — how they came to work in the field that they are in 
 — with details about what the work itself involves. The session thus off
 ers a combination of substantive discussion of the speaker’s work and cr
 itical views on the challenges of working in their area\, as well as perso
 nal and practical insights into how they ended up doing what they do and h
 ow they would advise others thinking about practice/policy as a possible f
 uture after studies/research.\n\nCGHR's Practitioner Series provides stude
 nts (both undergrads and postgrads) and researchers with the chance to ask
  questions of people that they might not normally have access to.\n\nIn th
 is session\, we speak to Clea Kahn. With more than 20 years' experience in
  the humanitarian sector\, Clea now works on a diverse array of projects a
 s an independent consultant. Her areas of expertise include migration and 
 refugees\, gender and gender-based violence\, protection\, including prote
 ction of civilians in armed conflict\, and humanitarian principles. Workin
 g with organisations like the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI)
 \, Red Cross and Red Crescent\, Médecins sans Frontières\, the Start Net
 work and the UK Department for International Development (now FCDO)\, She 
 has conducted research and evaluations\, produced strategies\, guidance an
 d delivered training\, and provided programme and policy guidance and advi
 ce. She serves on the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) for Gatwick immig
 ration detention centres\, and on the Governing Board of Professionals in 
 Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP). Clea is currently pursuing 
 a doctorate in counselling psychology.
