DESCRIPTION:We present a realistic grand unified theory of flavor based on
SO(10) x PSL (2\,7)\, where the quarks and leptons in the 16 of SO(10) ar
e assigned to the complex triplet representation of the discrete family sy
mmetry PSL (2\,7). The flavons on the other hand are assigned to the sexte
t and anti-triplet representations. Using a D-term vacuum alignment mechan
ism\, one flavon sextets is aligned along the 3-3 direction leading to the
third family Yukawa couplings\, while other sextets are aligned along the
neutrino flavor symmetry preserving directions leading to the possibility
of tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing via the type II see-saw mechanism. The s
tructure of the neutrino mixing is thus a direct reflection of how the fam
ily symmetry gets broken. Some phenomenological implications of this setup
  are discussed.
