DESCRIPTION:Many two-dimensional canonical scattering problems from elecro
magnetism\, acoustics and water wave theory have analogues inplate theory.
For example\, a model for an antenna array based on infinitely long cylin
ders shares the same geometry as a row of bolts (or holes) in an elastic p
late. In this presentation\, we will review the formulation of multiple sc
attering theory for waves in plates\,using classical (Kirchhoff) theory an
d also Mindlin's more sophisticated theory. We will show how to calculate
the wavenumbersfor Rayleigh--Bloch waves in thin plates\, and finally we w
ill examine the effectiveness of `small scatterer' models\, akin to Foldy'
 s approximation in acoustics.
