DESCRIPTION:Effective Field Theories (EFTs) are a versatile framework to d
escribe the low-energy effects of heavy new physics. We will discuss EFTs
built from the Standard Model (SM) fields only\, known as SM effective fie
ld theory (SMEFT)\, as well as theories including a new light degree of fr
eedom. For the SMEFT\, we will present results from global analyses and di
scuss the relevance of the electroweak input scheme.\n\nAxions and axion-l
ike particles (ALPs) are well-motivated low-energy relics of high-energy e
xtensions of the SM. Their weak interaction with the particles of the SM c
an be described through higher-dimensional operators at dimension five. Th
e presence of an ALP provides source terms for the Wilson coefficients of
the SMEFT. Making use of this ALP-SMEFT interference we will present mass-
independent constraints on the couplings of an ALP to SM particles.
