DESCRIPTION:In this talk we review some aspects of wave propagation in ran
 dom media.We address the following conjecture: for large propagation dista
 nces\, the wavefield has Gaussian statistics\, mean zero\, and second-orde
 r moments determined by radiative transfer theory.The results for the firs
 t two moments can be proved under general circumstances by multiscale anal
 ysis.The Gaussian conjecture for the statistical distribution of the wavef
 ield can be proved in some propagation regimes\, but it turns out to be wr
 ong in other regimes.\nCo-authors: Liliana Borcea\, Knut Solna\n&nbsp\;
