DESCRIPTION:During the COVID-19 pandemic\, it has been crucial understand
the characteristics of transmission and the implications for control. Epid
emiology and mathematical modelling has played a central role in developin
g this understanding\, from estimating key early information such as disea
se severity\, extent of missed infections and properties of new variants\,
to evaluating the potential effectiveness of control measures\, including
contact tracing and social distancing measures. This talk will give an ov
erview of the analysis conducted during COVID-19\, including contributions
to advisory groups in the UK\, and reflections on how to ensure pandemic
