DESCRIPTION:As disaster researchers\, practitioners\, policymakers and ent
 husiasts\, we often focus on the disastrous event as a dramatic\, anticipa
 ted and governed phenomena. But what about non-events? Disasters that migh
 t not have happened after a major hazard occurred? Events that are ‘not 
 quite disasters’? And\, how do we anticipate such events? How do we gove
 rn them through disaster risk reduction and management? In this seminar\, 
 we will hear from Professor Ben Anderson (Durham University)\, Brady Podlo
 ski (Disaster Recovery Branch\, Government of Alberta) and Dr Peter McGowr
 an (Oxford Brookes University) who will discuss themes including non-event
 s\, climate change\, disaster risk reduction\, assemblage theory and the p
 otential lessons from ‘not quite disasters’.
