SUMMARY:Intensity effects in the standard model and beyond - Dr Anton Ilde
 rton (Trinity College Dublin)

DESCRIPTION:High intensity laser facilities such as Vulcan and ELI will so
on allow us access to nonlinear vacuum phenomena in QED\, including nonlin
ear Compton scattering and\, perhaps\, Schwinger pair production. I will
review the basic lepton-photon scattering amplitudes in the presence of a
strong background (laser) field\, and discuss the phenomenology of the imp
lied electron mass shift. Finally\, taking noncommutativity of spacetime
as a source of physics beyond the standard model\, I will discuss the cons
equences of combined noncommutative\, strong field effects for pair produc
 tion.
