SUMMARY:An Isoprene Mechanism Intercomparison - Dr Alex Archibald\, Centre

DESCRIPTION:This talk will present results from an intercomparison concern
ing the gas phase chemical mechanisms used in a variety of models to descr
ibe the oxidation of isoprene in the atmosphere. Eight different mechanism
s are studied that range in complexity (smallest mechanism has only 24 rea
ctions\, largest 583). The results show that there are large differences b
etween mechanisms for a range of compounds. No mechanisms are able to simu
late the high levels of OH observed coincident with high isoprene and low
NOx. A further investigation looks into assessing very recent findings of
potential HOx formation and recycling in the isoprene oxidation mechanism.
