DESCRIPTION:We study quantization of log-likelihood ratios (LLR) in bit- i
nterleaved coded modulation (BICM) systems in terms of an equivalent discr
ete channel. We derive the optimal quantizer for this problem\, which is d
ifficult to implement in practice\, and therefore we propose an easily imp
lementable quantizer design.\nWe investigate semi-analytically and numeric
ally the ergodic and outage capacity over single- and multiple-antenna cha
nnels of the proposed quantizer and compare it with the optimal quantizer.
\nFinally\, we show bit error rate simulations for BICM systems with LLR q
 uantization using low-density parity-check codes.\n\nBIO:\nClemens Novak w

degree in Electrical Engineering from Vienna University of Technology. Cur
