DESCRIPTION:Magnetic braking\, a mechanism with which angular momentum is
lost from the system\, governs the evolution of binary stars such as catac
lysmic variables (CVs) and AM Canum Venaticorum (AM CVn) stars\, as well a
s regulates the spin down of single stars\, like our Sun. However\, a phys
ical phenomenon governing such a braking mechanism has yet to be made. In
this talk\, I will present our physically motivated Double Dynamo formalis
m of magnetic braking\, which explains the prominent features of CVs and A
M CVns. In addition\, I will touch upon how this model can be used to addr
ess the problem of stellar spin down.
