DESCRIPTION:The Early Cancer Institute seminar series aims to connect rese
 archers in the early cancer detection and diagnosis space to share knowled
 ge and spark collaboration. Join fellow researchers for lunch and an oppor

 remy Clark of UEA who will speak about: The PUR (Prostate Urine Risk) biom

 ts-522511444797\n\n*Speaker biography*\nJeremy’s research centres around
  the development and clinical implementation of diagnostic and prognostic 
 tests for Prostate Cancer.\n\nProstate cancer is present in the majority o
 f men over 55 years old but only a minority of men will die of the disease
 . Accurate identification of those cancers that will progress and kill the
  patient is not available at present.\n\nJeremy’s research examines urin
 e as a source of cancer biomarkers. The idea behind this is as follows: th
 e prostate lies just below the bladder\, it is a secretory organ and these
  secretions carry cells and molecules from all over the prostate to the ur
 ethra which then get flushed out of the body on urination. If a cancer is 
 present\, then tiny bits of the tumour are also carried with the secretion
 s and these can be detected in urine.\n\nIn the pilot study PUR (Prostate 
 Urine Risk Signatures)\, the team were able to separate men with low-risk 
 cancer into two groups - one of which had 8-times the rate of future devel
 opment of aggressive cancer than the other. This has led to the developmen
 t of the At-Home Urine Collection kit whereby a urine can be collected fro
 m men At-Home for Prostate cancer testing in the laboratory.\n\n\n
