DESCRIPTION:Many bacterial pathogens live in both people and the environme
nt around us\, and so it is often unclear where people have “caught” t
heir infection from. Genomics has revolutionised our ability to track the
movements and evolution of bacterial pathogens. I will describe how I have
used genomics to transform our understanding of a little-known but import
ant bacterium called Mycobacterium abscessus which causes life-threatening
  lung infections.
