DESCRIPTION:Dinosaurs ruled the world for over 150 million years\, went ex
tinct\, and then mammals replaced them. This story is constantly repeated
in textbooks\, documentaries\, and museum exhibits. But the real story is
so much richer. In this talk\, University of Edinburgh palaeontologist Ste
ve Brusatte (palaeontology advisor for Jurassic World: Dominion) will tell
the tale of dinosaur history\, from their humble origins on the supercont
inent Pangea\, through the evolution of earth-shaking giants and winged fl
iers that turned into birds\, to the sudden death of all of the non-birds
when a giant asteroid hit the Earth 66 million years ago. He will then tur
n describe how some small mammals weathered the chaos\, took advantage of
open niches\, and established our mammal-dominated world. The talk will fo
llow the storylines of Brusatte's pop science books The Rise and Fall of t
he Dinosaurs and the Rise and Reign of the Mammals\, copies of which will
be available for sale and signing.
