DESCRIPTION:This talk will be an exploration of the world of surfaces and 
 their homeomorphisms. We will use train tracks on surfaces to set off on a
  journey that will include a safari in the land of simple closed curves an
 d take us to the region of measured geodesic laminations\, at the frontier
  of Teichmüller space. At the end of our voyage\, we will gaze at the vie
 w from the peak of Nielsen-Thurston classification. No previous experience
  in topological rail travel is required.
