DESCRIPTION:Joint analysis of atmospheric measurements of CO2 with those o
f trace species with common sources and sinks enables improved quantificat
ion of common governing processes and the associated carbon fluxes. In thi
 s talk I will discuss these constraints\, focusing\, in particular\, on re
duced carbon species (e.g.\, CO) and on carbonyl sulphide (COS). The metho
dology involves interpretation of the observed signatures using a 3-D atmo
spheric chemistry transport model.\n\nSpecific examples discussed will inc
lude :(a) the use of CO:CO2 correlations to distinguish regional combustio
n and biospheric carbon fluxes\, and (b) the influence of reduced carbon o
xidation on the tropospheric CO2 distribution\, and its role in inverse es
 timates of carbon fluxes.\n
