SUMMARY:Optical monitoring of cerebral metabolism: from newborn brain inju
ry to dementia - Dr Gemma Bale\, Department of Engineering\, University of
  Cambridge

DESCRIPTION:I develop wearable\, non-invasive optical brain monitoring too
ls based on near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to measure brain oxygenation
and metabolism in places where conventional brain imaging isn’t possibl
 e. In this talk\, I will present some of the applications of this techniqu
e\, focussing on neonatal bran injury and dementia diagnosis\, covering th
e engineering challenges and future directions of wearable brain imaging i
n naturalistic environments.\n\nThe seminar will be held in a hybrid forma
 t. We strongly encourage you to participate in person at MR 12 \, Centre o
 f Mathematical Sciences\, CB3 0WA . Althernatively you can join using the
