DESCRIPTION:Understanding the mapping between the luminous and the dark ma
 tter is one of the primary goals of modern cosmology. This connection is a
 t the crux of our understanding of galaxy formation and forms a critical s
 tep in the pathway leading from high precision cosmological observations\,
  to constraints on the parameters defining that cosmology. In this talk\, 
 I will present recent work on furthering our understanding of the galaxy-h
 alo connection using survey data alongside new and upcoming cosmological s
 imulations. I will discuss some of the avenues in which cosmological simul
 ations can help inform galaxy-halo models better\, and some areas where th
 ey currently fall short.
