DESCRIPTION:Memory is a critical function of the brain\, but little is kno
wn about the mechanisms by which memories are modified\, adapted\, and per
sist. Memories are known to 'reconsolidate' undergoing updating and streng
thening following their destabilisation at retrieval. \n\nDr Milton studie
s the neurochemical\, molecular and intracellular basis of the reconsolida
tion process\, for aversive (fear) and appetitive (addictive drug) memorie
 s. Using translationally relevant animal models of neuropsychiatric disord
ers\, such as post-traumatic stress disorder and drug addiction\, she also
focuses on using this knowledge of memory reconsolidation mechanisms to d
evelop treatments for these disorders\, based on the disruption of maladap
 tive memories.
