DESCRIPTION:Bringing together materials from Belgian\, Dutch\, English\, F
 rench\, German\, and US-American archives\, this paper proposes a case stu
dy of the short-lived Prussian East India Companies to analyse how the tra
nsnational networks of labour\, capital\, and expertise that underlay the
various European East India Companies operated in practice. Understanding
how these companies functioned as both state-sponsored and as transnationa
l enterprises gives us new insights into the wider mechanisms underlying E
urope’s early modern economic and imperial expansion.
