DESCRIPTION:This talk presents a research project on monetary change\, pop
ular politics and everyday life in early modern Sweden. As in many other E
uropeans of the time\, early modern Swedes had to cope with a volatile mon
etary system causing periods of inflation\, cash shortages but also to com
prehend and use novelties such as copper and paper money. The aim of the p
roject is to understand the social and political ramifications of this pro
cess by examining money as a practical and political problem to be solved
involving not only the elite but also regular people and their concepts an
 d uses of money.
