DESCRIPTION:We study non-smooth migration of Saturn mass planets in the pr
 esence of\nlarge-scale vortices in the protoplanetary disc. Vortices are n
 on-linear\noutcomes of shear instabilities associated with edges of the ga
 p opened by\nthe planet. We present a self-consistent picture of this proc
 ess\, including\nthe formation of the unstable basic state\, its linear st
 ability and full\nhydrodynamic simulations. The role of the instability in
  type III migration\nis discussed.
