SUMMARY:A functioning neuroanatomy of autism - Sofie Valk\, Max Planck Ins
 titute

DESCRIPTION:Over the past two decades\, neuroimaging studies have revealed
differences in brain structure and intrinsic function between people with
autism and neurotypical controls\, but there is also high heterogeneity i
n reported results. \n\nIn this talk\, I will discuss some of my work in t
his area by taking a systems-level perspective. First\, I will illustrate
how the brain is organized by its past\, e.g.\, evolutionary and ontogenet
ic processes. Then\, I will discuss how this can help understand observati
ons of brain structural differences and their functional consequences in t
he context of autism. Finally\, I will discuss the possible implications f
or environmental plasticity within this framework.
