DESCRIPTION:Dramatic flag-like structures are observed in a confined geome
 try when a shear-thinning fluid is sandwiched between two lubricating laye
 rs. In this presentation\, I will discuss the laboratory experiments that 
 were undertaken to study the origin and evolution of these instabilities\,
  as well as the issues faced by an inexperienced experimenter. A subset of
  the experimental results will be shown and discussed\, and some interesti
 ng observations will be summarised. \n
