DESCRIPTION:Internal waves are responsible for significant mixing in the o
cean and distribute energy through a variety of mechanisms. Triadic resona
nce instability (TRI) is one such mechanism\, in which an internal wavebea
m above a critical amplitude emits two 'child' internal wavebeams. We inve
stigate how interaction with a vortex ring can trigger this instability at
a lower amplitude than the critical\, and show some experiments trying to
understand which aspects of the vortex ring are causing the collapse.
