DESCRIPTION:# Abstract\n\nThis session begins with mobile networking evolu
 tion from 2G to 5G. It presents architectural and technology enablers of e
 ach cellular technology evolution. Then it will present technology evoluti
 on and research challenges at the intersection of “5G\, edge computing a
 nd AI/ML” for realizing Industry 4.0. It will conclude with a discussion
  on research opportunities over next decade for 6G.\n\n# Speaker Bio\n\nAs
  a CTO of Ericsson Silicon Valley\, Dr Mallik Tatipamula leads evolution o
 f Ericsson’s technology strategy\, champion the company’s next phase o
 f innovation and growth driven by 5G. He also leads early 6G research effo
 rts.  Prior to Ericsson\, he held several leadership positions at F5 netwo
 rks\, Juniper networks\, Cisco\, Motorola\, Nortel\, and Indian Institute 
 of Technology (Chennai). During 33 years of his professional career\, he h
 as played a unique leadership role in delivering industry’s innovative p
 roducts working with telecom operators\, and also innovating for the futur
 e\, working with academia\, by anticipating what might happen next\, to ac
 celerate the architectural transitions in the telecom industry. \nMallik i
 s a visiting Professor at King’s College London and Honorary Professor a
 t the Univ. of Glasgow\, UK. He is an International Fellow of the Royal Ac
 ademy of Engineering (FREng)\, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE)\,
  and a Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE) and The Institutio
 n of Engineering and Technology (FIET). He received " Chief Engineer of th
 e year Award (2022) from IET "\, "CTO of the year (2021) from Silicon Vall
 ey Business Journal\," “UC Berkeley’s Garwood Center for Corporate Inn
 ovation Award (2019)\,” “Technologist of the Year (2020) award from To
 tal Telecom’s World Communication Awards\, sponsored by NTT (Japan)”\,
  “IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Industry Leader award (2020)
 \,” “IET Achievement medal in telecommunications (2020)”. In 2021\, 
 he has been inducted into IPv6 Hall of Fame by IPv6 Forum. He appeared in 
 ”who’s who in 5G” Top Influential Voices (2022) by Onalytica.\n\nHe 
 has Ph.D. in Information and Communications Engineering from the Univ. of 
 Tokyo\, Japan\, Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute
  of Technology\, Chennai\, India in 1990 and Bachelor’s in Electronics a
 nd Communications Engineering from NIT\, Warangal\, India in 1988. He has 
 delivered lectures and taught courses at UC Berkeley\, Univ of Tokyo\, Sta
 nford and other universities. He mentored over 100 undergrad/graduate stud
 ents\, delivered 400+ keynote/invited talks/tutorials/lectures\, co-author
 ed 2 books\, 100+ publications/patents\, served on 40+ IEEE conferences co
 mmittees. He has been involved in developing industry-academia partnership
 s in Canada\, US\, UK and India for future technology innovations. \nHe se
 rves on several advisory boards including Global Semiconductor Alliance\, 
 Gartner/Evanta CIO Council\, Digital India Initiative\, London Digital Twi
 n Research Center\, and Chair for the Industry Advisory Board for Garwood 
 Center for Corporate Innovation\, Advisor to Center for Growth Markets at 
 Univ. of California\, Berkeley and Jacobs School of Engineering\, Univ. Ca
 lifornia\, San Diego. He served on advisory boards of Nicira (acquired by 
 VMWare for $1.2B) and Pensando (acquired by AMD for $1.9B) among others.
