DESCRIPTION:The presence of cavities in explosives is known to sensitize t
he material and cause ignition where it wouldn't occur if the voids were n
ot present. Numerical simulations of shock-induced air-bubble collapse in
water present the dominant physical mechanisms present in the collapse pro
cess\, while multiple bubble cluster simulations provide a picture of the
interactions of the collapse of neighbouring cavities. This provides a str
ong basis to approaching the level of understanding the physical mechanism
s that contribute to the start of ignition in heterogeneous explosives.
