SUMMARY:LMB Seminar: Blending Proteins: Democratising Access to Beautiful
 Molecular Landscapes - Brady Johnston

DESCRIPTION:Structural biology is filled with endlessly captivating and co
mplex protein structures. While this has traditionally been the realm of d
edicated molecular graphics software such as PyMol\, ChimeraX and VMD\, gr
aphical fidelity is not the focus of these programs which limits the poten
tial for visualising protein structures in all their glory.\n\nI will be p
resenting my journey through molecular visualisation\, in a quest to impro
ve not only graphical quality of my experimental data\, but also improve t
he ability of these visualisations to communicate complex biological topic
 s. This culminated in the creation of the add-on Molecular Nodes for the i
ndustry-leading free and open-source 3D modelling program Blender. This ha
s led to a revolution in the ability of structural biologists all over the
world to create compelling visualisations and complex animations\, ground
ed in the underlying scientific data that we generate.
LOCATION:In person in the Max Perutz Lecture Theatre (CB2 0QH) and via Zoo
